"India made heavy weather of minnows Bangladesh before scripting a sixwicket victory for a winning start to their campaign at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai on Thursday.
Having Bangladesh to 228 runs thanks to a five-wicket haul by Mohammed Shami, India rode a century by opener Shubman Gill to chase down the target in 46.3 overs.
Gill batted through the innings to remain unbeaten on 101 runs off 129 balls.
India faced a brief wobble with Virat Kohli (22 off 38) and Shreyas Iyer (15 off 17) falling cheaply, allowing Bangladesh a brief glimmer of hope, but a dropped catch of KL Rahul by Jaker Ali proved costly. Rahul, with an unbeaten 41, finished the chase in style with a towering six off Tanzim Hasan Sakib in the 47th over.
India reached 231/4 in 46.3 overs, sealing a six-wicket triumph.
