With the onset of winter, Asansol's Air Quality Index (AQI) has deteriorated significantly, with air pollution levels reaching alarming levels in recent days.

The AQI in the Court area is particularly severe, registering at 275, while Evelyn Lodge has recorded a reading of 251.

Asansol is now categorized in the fifth category of the AQI, indicating a critical level of air pollution. The six categories of AQI are as follows: 0-50, 51-100, 101-150, 151-200, 201-300, and above 300 (critical).

Currently, Asansol ranks among the 70 most polluted cities in India.
