The heartbreak of the 2023 World Cup final still lingers, but the 25-year-old is determined to turn those lessons into triumph when India faces New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final in Dubai on Sunday.
On November 19, 2023, in Ahmedabad, India seemed destined for glory. An unbeaten campaign, a commanding semifinal win over New Zealand—everything pointed toward a fairytale finish. But Pat Cummins-led Australia had other plans, clinching the trophy with a six-wicket win.
Gill, now the world's top-ranked ODI batter, is looking to help India take that final step toward 50-over supremacy. Reflecting on the pressure of an ICC final, he admitted that the sense of urgency got the better of him.
