Mamata Banerjee urged Trinamul leaders to support I-PAC, distancing it from Prashant Kishore, ahead of the 2026 Bengal Assembly election

- SUBHENDU MAITI

Chief minister and Trinamul Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alerted her party leaders and workers not to spread any wrong information about the election strategic agency, Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) ahead of the Assembly election in West Bengal in 2026.

After suffering a setback to BJP in Lok Sabha (LS) polls in 2019, Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of the ruling Trinamul Congress, had engaged the I-PAC to give strategic support to the ruling party in the state during elections.

The Trinamul Congress chief while addressing the party's organisational meeting at Netaji Indoor Stadium (NIS) this afternoon urged her party leaders and workers saying, "Stop making wrong statements against the I-PAC because you have to understand that we have to work with them ahead of elections."

"This I-PAC is no more with PK (Prashant Kishore), who has floated a new political party. This is a new team and people know it. Therefore, we have to cooperate with them," Miss Banerjee said in the meeting.

Significantly, about five days ago, Prateek Jain, who is now heading the agency after Mr Kishore left, met the chief minister at the state secretariat Nabanna and both of them had a long meeting for about an hour.
