Elderly farmer abducted by Bangladeshi miscreants returns home

An elderly farmer from Sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar district, West Bengal, who was abducted by Bangladeshi miscreants on 16 April, returned home just after midnight on Wednesday.
The farmer, Ukil Barman, had crossed the border to work on his farmland, which lies outside the barbed wire fencing near the zero line on the Bangladesh side.
Like many residents along the Indo-Bangladesh border, Barman owns agricultural land situated beyond the fencing. These farmers have long relied on assistance from the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to access and tend to their fields. On the day of his abduction, Barman had duly informed the BSF before entering his farmland.
