CMD of ECL Visits Harishpur to Inspect Subsistence-Affected Village, Monitor Rehab Process

The Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) Satish Kumar Jha has visited the subsidence-affected Harishpur village under Andal block of West Burdwan district.
In the year 2020, a major subsidence occurred in Harishpur village under Madanpur Gram panchayat of Andal Block.
Admitting that the situation in Harishpur village is grim, the ECL CMD has reportedly urged the villagers to shift elsewhere for their own safety and directed them to take benefits of the houses being set up in Andal aerotropolis area meant for the subsidence-affected people.
At that time, many people had fled away in fear after agricultural land subsided along with houses due to caving in of a large area. The locals boycotted the 2021 assembly polls and then the Lok Sabha by-polls in 2022, seeking rehabilitation and resettlement.
