We have created and exhibited art for the sole reason of expressing our soul, which otherwise words could never really explain. Art creates the warm bed on a winter night, tucked in with the favourite story book, but it is also a tool to show our sadness, our discontent, and most importantly, our grief.

Like most of India, Bengal has a rich tapestry of artistic prowess in recording the folk tales and religious myths through Pata Chitra. The Chitrakar or the Patua community of Bengal is a long lineage of artists who record various social aspects through scroll paintings. Pata Chitra artists not only exhibit their scrolls to the public but also sing songs to describe the events one by one as they go down the scrolls. It is generally stories of Hindu mythology, but there are also instances of the rituals of the land, seasons, and food throughout the year. Manimala Chitrakar stands out among the community of scroll painters and the preservation of culture though art is a heritage that she has inherited intrinsically.
