WBSSC row: Cops summon protesting teachers on 21 May

Fifteen teachers protesting outside the West Bengal Education Department headquarters have been summoned by Bidhannagar Police for allegedly destroying public property and obstructing government officials

Fifteen job aspirants involved in a sit-in protest near Bikash Bhavan in Salt Lake have been summoned by Bidhannagar North Police Station in connection with alleged violations of the law, including assault on police personnel, government employees, and destruction of government property.

The incident stems from a scuffle that broke out on 15 May, when police attempted to disperse the demonstrators. According to senior police officials, CCTV footage from the area was reviewed, and 15 individuals were identified as allegedly involved in the violence. Notices have been issued, requiring them to appear at the police station by 11 a.m. on Tuesday, 21 May.

A senior police official stated, "The summoning is part of a legal process. We have identified individuals based on evidence, including video footage."

However, the protesters—most of whom are qualified teachers who lost their jobs following judicial scrutiny of recruitment irregularities—claimed the move is part of a broader effort to suppress their months-long agitation demanding reinstatement.
