Gajan or Shivagajan is a traditional Hindu festival celebration at Tarkeswar temple, and also at various other parts of the state.
Gajan or Shivagajan is a traditional Hindu festival celebration at Tarkeswar temple, and also at various other parts of the state. Gajan is a week-long celebration, starting at the last week of Chaitra (last month of Bengali calendar) and continuing till the end of the Bengali year with Charak Puja.
According to the etymology of gajan, ga means village and jan means folk. Hence, it is a festival where mainly the common villagers of Bengal traditionally take part.
