Push for speedy trials: Chief Justice inaugurates commercial courts

Litigants awaiting settlement of long-pending commercial cases can heave a sigh of relief after two designated courts were inaugurated today.

Calcutta High Court Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam cut the ribbon for the much-vaunted new commercial courts, which would soon become operational and hopefully provide speedy justice to commercial and financial issues in the city.

With the unveiling of the two courts on the 7th and 8th floors of the City Civil Court building in Kolkata, the burden of burgeoning commercial and financial cases that had accumulated over the years are now likely to lessen considerably, claimed advocates dealing with such cases.

Addressing a large gathering at the civil court premises, Chief Justice Sivagnanam harped on the importance of the two new commercial courts, which he said would contribute significantly in the speedy disposal of cases that had piled up over the years.
