As Durga Puja draws closer, thelikelihood of rain continues to rise in South Bengal, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of rough seas and heavy showers later this week.

The sky of Kolkata on Monday is covered with clouds. According to the Alipore weather office, the Bay of Bengal is likely to see a low-pressure system form two days before Sasthi, increasing the chances of rainfall during the Puja period. From Thursday, or Tritiya, seas are expected to turn turbulent, prompting authorities to caution fishermen against venturing out. Heavy rainfall is forecast in at least four districts — South 24-Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore
