HS: First-ever semester system concludes

Higher Secondary examinations under the new semester system concluded today, making West Bengal the first state in India to conduct the new evaluation method in school education, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) adopted in 2020.

In a paradigm shift from the conventional 10+2 system, the NEP is a significant reform introduced by the Indian government on July 29, 2020, to revamp thenation's education system for the 21st century. Key goals include creating a more holistic, flexible, multidisciplinary, and student-centric system focused on foundational learning, skill development, and lifelong learning. Highlights include the new 5+3+3+4 school structure.

The president of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE), Dr. Chiranjeeb Bhattacharjee, inspected schools in Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum and Hooghly in a bid to display his commitment to transparency and student-centricity. He paid a surprise visit to Serampore Girls' High School in Hooghly on the 11th day of the new system of examinations.
