Delhi rediscover their mojo to overpower Punjab by six wickets
The Statesman Kolkata
|May 25, 2025
Delhi Capitals revived some of the fighting spirit that was visible during the initial matches of their campaign at IPL 2025 to upstage an in-form Punjab Kings by six wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here on Saturday.
Chasing a stiff target of 207 runs, Delhi took the loss of early wickets in their stride thanks to a breezy unbeaten half-century by Sameer Rizvi to go past the finishing line with three deliveries to spare. Fittingly, it was Rizvi who brought up the winning runs with a six off Marcus Stoinis. The right-hander needed just 25 deliveries for his 58 runs, hitting three boundaries and five sixes along the way.
Second-placed Punjab's dream of displacing Gujarat from the top of the points table will have to wait for now as they remain on 17 points after 13 matches.
The in-form KL Rahul had ensured an excellent start for Delhi before being deceived by a slower one from Marco Jansen.
Faf du Plessis and Sediqullah Atal followed him in quick succession as the Delhi chase seemed to falter.
