A senior Customs and GST officer was brutally assaulted inside his own apartment in Rajpur on Saturday evening, allegedly by a mob of 50 to 60 people, following an altercation with an auto-rickshaw driver.

The shocking incident has raised serious questions about law and order in the area, as CCTV footage from the residential complex captured the attackers breaking into the premises and storming the officer's flat.

According to the complaint lodged at Sonarpur police station, the victim, identified as Pradeep Kumar, a Central Customs officer posted in Kolkata, was returning home to his Rajpur apartment when an auto allegedly hit his car near the entrance gate.
