This 2-2 Draw Will Rank Right at the Top: KL Rahul

For India, the 2-2 scoreline in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy isn't just a result of a hard-fought series, but a statement of resurgence, made without three of the greatest modern icons—Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin, who all announced their retirements from the longest format earlier this year.

With the team in a transitional phase, and a young Shubman Gill handed the side's captaincy, KL Rahul was among one of the few remaining senior figures in the side, along side the duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. The trio stepped into a guiding role both on and off the field.

Rahul's 532 runs at an average of 53.20 made him the third-highest run-getter in the series. At the end of the series, the Karnataka right-hander reflected how significant this performance was for the young Indian team.

"For us, as a team that wasn't given a chance in this series, for us to fight back and to fight in every game and to get a result which is 2-2 might seem like a draw, but for us and for Indian Test cricket going in the future, I think this will rank right at the top," Rahul said after India's thrilling six-run win at The Oval.

"And this is where the change begins and the Indian Test team will go on to create many things and win many more series outside of India," he added.
