SC to hear 14 July Shiv Sena (UBT) plea for 'Bow and Arrow' symbol

The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined an urgent hearing on the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) plea over the party's 'bow and arrow' symbol in view of the upcoming local bodies elections in Maharashtra but agreed to list the matter on July 14—when the top court reopens after its seven-week long summer vacations.
Questioning the urgency in hearing the application by the Shiv Sena (UBT), a vacation bench comprising Justice M M Sundresh and Justice K Vinod Chandran said that even if the election was notified, the challenge was ultimately against a High Court order.
Mentioning the application, senior advocate Devadatt Kamat, appearing for the Shiv Sena (UBT) told the vacation bench that the local body elections in Maharashtra were likely to be notified next week and interim directions were needed to safeguard electoral interests.
