Retd Judge K Chandru dismayed over Shah's comments on Ambedkar

Retd Justice K Chandru, expressed his grave concern over recent comments on Ambedkar made by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
He also noted that the mandate of the people in the 2024 general elections had resulted in reduced share count of the BJP and hence the Waqf amendment bill was unable to pass it in parliament.
The retired judge of Madras High Court was addressing the national conference of AILAJ at Cuttack.
The Constitution must not be treated as a holy document or scripture but one that must be in service of people's power.
For our judiciary to be truly independent, judges must show fidelity to the Constitution in their judgment and conduct, given that they take oath under the Constitution.
Unfortunately there are times when the judiciary has failed to do so, he said, while citing the appointment of a Madras High Court judge despite opposition of several lawyers for comments on minority community and more recently another judge speaking on how the country must be run by the majority.
