NHRC seeks report on plight of speech and vision-impaired

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought for an Action Taken Report on the issue of access to Justice to the differently able persons especially the speech impaired, deaf and blind persons.

The NHRC has sought an Action Taken Report from the Chief Secretary, Odisha on the steps taken to control floods and combat artificial floods during the monsoon due to various reasons in Bhadrak district.

Acting on the petition filed by Lawyer and Human Rights Activist Radhakanta Tripathy the NHRC passed the order recently. The petitioner has drawn the attention of the Commission in the matter pertaining to the artificial floods in Bhadrak district, alleging that resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, agriculture and infrastructure, disruption of health and sanitation, displacement, and environmental degradation. The floods, exacerbated by human intervention and poor management, have threatened the fundamental human rights of the affected population, including the right to life, shelter, health, and livelihood, Tripathy contended.
