Kirti Jha Azad, Member of Parliament from the Burdwan-Durgapur Lok Sabha constituency and former cricketer, has proposed the development of infrastructure and promotion of religious tourism at Garh Jungle of Garh Chandi Dham in West Burdwan district—the site believed to have hosted the world's first Durga Puja. The project is envisaged under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

Situated approximately 173 kilometers from Kolkata and well connected by road, rail and air, the historic site lies within the Kanksa Block of Durgapur Sub-Division. In a recent meeting with West Burdwan District Magistrate S. Ponnambalam, Azad—a member of India's 1983 World Cup-winning cricket team—submitted a proposal to upgrade facilities in the area.
