Farmers struggle to procure 'elusive' fertilizer in Kendrapara

Belying the governmental claim of streamlining of fertilizer supply, farmers in Kendrapara district continue to form serpentine queues at the primary agriculture cooperative societies to buy fertilizer.
But they are left dejected after being told that there is no stock leading to the protests.
The scenario is largely the same in all parts of the district and is in sharp contrast to the Chief Minister and his ministerial colleagues' assertion that there is no fertilizer crisis in the state.
"Due to the presence of large numbers of agitated farmers in front of the society, we stopped the distribution of fertilizers to farmers and sought the help of the administration to provide proper security for us at the society," said Tapan Swain the secretary of agriculture cooperative society at Shyamsundarpur village.
