Farm income was second lowest in the country under BJD regime: CM

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday said income of farmers in Odisha was the second lowest in the country under the 24-year-old BJD regime whereas in just 14 months, the BJP government has provided Rs 58,000 per annum to farm families.

Addressing a function organized for release of Rs 1041 crore towards the third installment of CM KISAN assistance to over 51 lakh farmers on the eve of agrarian festival Nuakhai, the Chief Minister said his government stands committed to more than double the income of farmers who constitute over 60 percent of the population.

Farmers need to supplement their agriculture income with fisheries and animal husbandry related activity, he said.

Providing a break-up of the enhanced income of farmers, he said by way of Rs 800 per quintal as input subsidy over and above the MSP, the farmers have earned around Rs 38,000 and if the 10,000 each from Subhadra Yojana, PM and CM KISAN, it totals to Rs 58,000 per annum.
