TRC Cases Inquiry: Mxolisi Nxasana discusses his tumultuous tenure as head of the NPA
The Star
|July 03, 2026
FORMER National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Advocate Mxolisi Nxasana has opened up about the challenges he faced while heading the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) from October 2013 until his resignation on June 1, 2015.
Speaking yesterday before the TRC Cases Inquiry chaired by retired Constitutional Court Justice Sisi Khampepe, Nxasana described a hostile atmosphere that severely impacted his ability to execute his duties effectively.
In his testimony, Nxasana was forthright about the difficulties he encountered, particularly regarding his lack of engagement with TRC cases.
“It is a fact that under my acting tenure, I had never dealt with TRC cases. When I got there, many things had already happened, and people were opposed to my appointment, saying I was not qualified for the position,” Nxasana said.
