SOUTH Africa’s classrooms are becoming unsafe places.

The latest report before Parliament shows more than 600 teachers have been accused of misconduct in the past year, with over a hundred of those cases involving sexual relations with learners. That number should make every parent, official and union leader hang their head in shame.
Teachers hold society’s most sacred trust to educate and to protect. When that trust is violated, it tears at the moral fabric of schools and communities.
