George building collapse: families kept in the dark

TODAY marks one year since the collapse of the George building that killed 34 people. One year later, and the families left behind still don't have answers.

What they do have is grief, mounting bills, unemployment and frustration.

Last week's standing committee briefing on the tragedy raised more questions than it answered. The Western Cape government confirmed it had only received one hard copy of the final report, and that it has now been handed to the SAPS. The matter is under criminal investigation and "the law must now take its course". This may be legally correct, but it doesn't make it morally right.
