Gauteng Health MEC must go after further court cancer ruling

THE Democratic Alliance is again calling on Premier Panyaza Lesufi to fire Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko following the urgent judgment by the Gauteng High Court to enforce their earlier ruling on the treatment of cancer patients.

In a judgment in the matter of Cancer Alliance vy MEC for Health, Gauteng and 10 Others, Judge Dippenaar noted the “dire consequences” of the backlog of cancer patients requiring urgent radiation treatment. This included “irreversible and permanent harm” as some patients had died while waiting for treatment, and the cancer had spread in other patients, making them ineligible for radiation treatment.
