Elderly man shot during informal settlement eviction in Limpopo

WHAT began as a routine eviction raided into a deadly confrontation when an elderly man was fatally shot.
The law enforcement said, resulting in the arrest of one suspect who will be responsible for the shooting.
Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, said that on Tuesday the Anti-Corruption Unit received a complaint about an incident at Jiru Valley informal settlement, near Polokwane, where residents allegedly erected structures during the eviction operation.
“During eviction operation, noticeably security officers allegedly erupted when occupants reportedly began attacking security officers with stones, resulting in the damaging of a vehicle. Amid the chaos, a shot was fired, resulting in the fatal wounding of a 54-year-old man; the man was declared dead at the scene,” he added.
He added that members of the Public Order Policing unit were deployed to the area and successfully managed to restore order.
