'Vale have got to find a way to compete against some big teams'

PORT Vale should be content with a mid-table finish in League One.

That's the view of former defender Adam Yates who reckons Darren Moore’s squad will be a competitive one in the third tier.

Yates was a regular in the Valiants side for a decade and is fully aware what’s required now the club are back at the level from which they were relegated two years ago.

Last season Vale were lucky that the opposition failed to take clear chances at times. That won't be so prevalent in League One.

“The more you go up the leagues, the less the ball changes hands and the more teams keep possession and they don’t give it away quite as easily,” he explained.

“On the flip side, they don’t concede the goals they do the lower you go. And they are more ruthless with their chances.
