Former racehorse up for award
A STOKE-on-Trent-based former racehorse has been shortlisted for a major accolade after a remarkable transition to a second career.
Skeaping and owner Claire Howie, 34, have been nominated in the Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) Horse of the Year Award after an impressive year in dressage and eventing. After a successful racing career that included five wins in 53 races, two within 24 hours at Fakenham and Stratford, Skeaping was bought by Claire in 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since then, the pair have gone on to compete in dressage and eventing to great success.
RoR, British horseracing's official charity for the welfare of former racehorses, introduced the My Pension Expert Horse of the Year Award in 2014.
Nominations are open to all RoR registered former racehorses who can demonstrate how they have successfully transitioned from racing to a new career.
