Families in new fight to save green space

- Phil Corrigan

FAMILIES have vowed to once again fight plans for more than 100 homes on public open space - eight years after previously saving the site from development.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council shelved a bid to build 154 houses and flats on authority-owned land off Brookwood Drive in Weston Coyney in 2017, following widespread local opposition.

But now the council has earmarked the 5.1 hectare site for 124 homes in its draft local plan, which will guide all development in Stoke-on-Trent up to 2040.

Local residents insist that the site is still the wrong place for new housing, raising concerns over traffic, the loss of valuable open space, and the impact on wildlife.

They held a meeting last week to organise opposition to the council's proposals.
