19-year-old imprisoned for 27 months

- Sentinel Reporter

ASYLUM seeker Mohammed Poor has been jailed after he threw rocks at rival protesters during the city centre riots in Hanley last summer.

The 19-year-old Iranian, who fled to the UK after being persecuted in his homeland, became involved in the violence on August 3 last year.

He was seen on CCTV throwing rocks at the opposing group.

Now Poor has been jailed for 27 months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. The sentence could lead to his deportation.

Prosecutor Sabhia Pathan said riot police were deployed to Hanley on the afternoon of August 3, 2024 following reaction to the murders of three young girls in Southport.
