Talks over two-tier Premier League and a Championship breakaway

CLUB bosses have 'exchanged WhatsApp messages' about a two-tier Premier League, while others in the Championship want their division to break away from the EFL too, football finance expert Kieran Maguire has revealed.
-
The future of the English football pyramid remains a subject of debate behind the scenes, four years after a proposed European Super League bit the dust following a furious reaction from supporters.
Maguire, right, has mentioned previously how some top flight executives would like the Premier League reduced to 16 teams to free up time to play lucrative friendlies.
On his latest Price of Football podcast, he was asked if it was possible bigger clubs in the Championship could split to form a 16-club Premier League B with clubs in the lower regions of the top division.
It is a pertinent point amid increased concern that freshly-promoted clubs to the Premier League are going straight down, and freshly-relegated clubs to the Championship are going straight back up.
Maguire said: “If we take a look at the proposals of Project Big Picture, it did involve a reduction in the size of the Premier League to, I think, 18.
