Reader pic highlights plight of homeless

THIS shocking picture of a homeless man bedded down on a snow-covered pavement highights the plight of Stoke-on-Trent's rough sleepers.

A Sentinel reader shared the image of a man wrapped in a duvet on the freezing ground outside Sandon Road Supermarket in Meir. It was captured at 9am on Monday as temperatures fell to about -6C overnight in the city.

It comes as Stoke-on-Trent City Council has triggered its ‘severe weather emergency protocol’ which means every effort will be made to find safe and warm accommodation for anyone found sleeping on the streets of the Potteries.

A council spokesman said: “When you make contact, please give a precise location of the person, including the street, shop name, and postcode if possible.”
