Off-duty nurse tried in vain to save hit-and-run victim

AN off-duty nurse tried to save the life of a man who died after a fatal hit-and-run.
Emergency services - including two ambulances - had been called out to Newcastle Lane in Penkhull where Christopher Deaville died at the scene.
Detectives investigating Friday night's fatal collision are continuing to appeal for witnesses about the incident, which occurred at around 9pm.
And West Midlands Ambulance Service say when paramedics arrived a caring off-duty nurse was providing 'basic life support' to 51-year-old Christopher, of Stoke-on-Trent.
