Missed transfer ultimately turns out to be a blessing for Stoke boss
The Sentinel
|November 22, 2025
ARK Robins is grateful for the one that got away in his last summer at Coventry - because now he is reaping the benefits at Stoke.
-
Robins was among the Championship admirers who were fighting to trigger a clause to sign Johansson from Rotherham in the summer of 2024 but it was Stoke who managed to get to the front of the queue.
Johansson, now aged 27, has since been justifying his reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the division or, as Robins thinks, the best.
He has been promoted to the top of the Sweden pecking order and has played all 61 league games since he joined, which is a massive turnaround from Stoke's recent years.
The goalkeeping duties had been shared around since the latter days of Jack Butland - to the extent that none had made more than 22 starts in a season over the previous four years.
