Mends fixes it with late winner as Rocester move into the top three

ROCESTER picked up their third win out of their opening four games in the Staffordshire County Senior League Premier Division.

They beat newly-promoted FC Hanley 2-1 at Hillsfield with pacey wide-man Jake Walklett and skipper William Mends on the mark.

Keeylin Thomas had levelled the scores for Michael Morton's team before Mends’ late winner moved his side up to third position.

Another of the newly-promoted teams also suffered a setback when Wayne Smith's new-look AFC Norton went down 2-0 to Allan Davies’ Silverdale Athletic at their Community Drive home.

Former Congleton Town striker Aaron Johns netted a brace in the second half to seal the three points.

Matt Rogalski’s reign as manager of Wolstanton United has seen a mixed bag of results and their latest outing at Pointon Parkin Cheddleton saw them return home with a point after being held by hosts Leek CSOB.

The Old Boys held the advantage at the interval when James Hollins netted on 44 minutes but two minutes after the restart Sebastian Stillwell equalised for Wolstanton.

Player-manager Rogalski led by example and gave his side a 71st-minute lead, only to see it wiped out nine minutes from time by Jack Burke.

Dave Ottley’s Milton United are taking their end-of-season good form into this new campaign and followed last week's thrashing of Redgate Clayton with a hard-fought point against champions Ball Haye Green at The Hardman Centre.

The deadlock was only broken on 72 minutes when Jack Rowe netted for Green but a last-gasp equaliser by Jenson Joseph Guest ensured the spoils were shared.

A 90th-minute winner by Aron McGrath gave AFC Crewe a 2-1 victory in their encounter at Town Fields against Audley.
