Man diagnosed with cancer seven years ago thanks hospice for mum's care

- Sentinel Reporter

A STOKE-ON-TRENT man diagnosed with cancer seven years ago has completed his first 10k - despite not being able to 'run for a bus' just a few years ago.

Dec Brennan - who was diagnosed with bowel cancer and now wears a colostomy bag - decided to take on the 10k challenge to raise funds for Dougie Mac after the Blurton-based charity looked after his mum, Pam.

Pam was diagnosed with vascular dementia seven years ago and was given full-time care by her daughter - Dec's sister, Louise - who was given respite one day a week thanks to the charity.

Following Pam's death, Dec decided to raise money as a way of saying thank you for the care his mum received - despite only starting exercise last October.
