BEN Garrity insists he does not expect to walk back into Port Vale’s team just because he is captain.

Garrity happy to be back after 'weird time' with double injury

The 28-year-old Valiants skipper, right, returned for the first time in more than three months when he emerged as a second-half substitute against Stevenage. He had missed the end of the promotion season with a hamstring strain while still being troubled by an ankle problem he has had since last October.

That meant he has missed preseason training before returning five games into the new campaign.

"I was buzzing to play again even though it was a disappointing night really considering what the lads put in," he said at the pre-match press conference.

"To not come away with three points was a sucker punch. It’s been three months really where it’s been a weird time and a tough time but it’s good to be back."
