Farmer fails to get back 54 pigs seized from field

A FARMER has lost his fight to get more than 50 pigs returned to him after they were seized from land in Stoke-on-Trent.
Trading Standards took action last year after concerns were raised that a sow appeared underweight and had sores on her back.
A total of 54 pigs belonging to Mark Oulton were removed from the field off Chatterley Road, at Sandyford, last October. Issues included 'significant detritus and debris' and an open manhole cover on the land.
Other concerns included the pigs not being properly segregated, not enough food and the fact members of the public were feeding them. Now magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre have granted permission for Stoke-on-Trent City Council to dispose of the animals 'as they see fit.
