Two-year road ban for man who downed six cans of 8.5% booze - then borrowed pal’s car to fetch more

DRINK-DRIVER David Smith has been banned from the roads for two years after he crashed a car when nearly three times the legal limit.

The 41-year-old was driving a friend's car to the shop to buy alcohol when the Toyota Yaris collided with a stationary vehicle in Clifton Street, May Bank, at 7.30pm on April 9.

Prosecutor Zaine Riaz told North Staffordshire Justice Centre Smith got out of the car. He told police he borrowed the car and admitted he hit another vehicle.

A roadside breath test was positive and Smith said: "I am an alcoholic, duck, it is always going to be in my system."
