Council ends legal action against landfill operator

Abatement notice unenforceable after firm’s collapse in February

COUNCIL chiefs have confirmed that their legal action against Walleys Quarry Ltd has ended - following the company’s collapse.

Newcastle Borough Council had been preparing a legal case against the controversial landfill operator over an alleged breach of an abatement notice.

But Walley Quarry Ltd (WQL) went into liquidation in February, with its liquidators 'disclaiming' ownership of the Silverdale landfill site. A cabinet meeting at the borough council was told that this meant the proceedings could not continue.
