MITCH Clark is working hard off the pitch at Port Vale to make sure he stays on it despite fierce competition for places in his position.

The wing-back, pictured, has had a stop-start career with the Valiants and is now in his fourth spell at the club.

Knee and muscular injuries blighted his progress in 2023/24 and he suffered a neck injury last summer which ruled him out until December during last season's promotion campaign.

Now he is focusing on staying fit and keeping his place in the team having started at Rotherham United in League One on Saturday.

Ahead of the clash with Cardiff City, tonight, Clark said: "I was always going to have confidence coming back into the season because I knew I had a good end to the season. In the off season I felt good. I kept myself in good shape and when I came back into preseason I kind of knew I was going to hit the ground running if that's the right word to use. I just feel confident out there."
