Chaos reigns as Burslem take the spoils in controversial Golden Over
The Sentinel
|May 12, 2025
BURSLEM won a Golden Over against Leycett in NSSCL Premier B - but it should never have been staged.

Burslem were dismissed for 175 in the first half of their trip to Park Terrace, before Leycett replied with 175-9.
The two sides then contested a Golden Over, which Burslem won, although that decision went against league rules.
They state that in the win/lose format, if the scores are level, then the side who lost the fewer wickets should be declared the winners.
That was Leycett, so there was confusion as to who actually did prevail on the day.
Ryan Roberts (48) and Shoaib Akhtar (31) made the most progress with the bat in Burslem's innings, while Matt Johnson (3-31) and Jaidel Richardson (3-42) impressing with the ball.
Leycett saw Dan Redfern hit six fours in his 60 in reply, while Reece White chipped in with 30.
They needed nine off the last two overs and appeared set for victory - but Burslem struck back again to leave the scores level.
Sam Waterhouse (3-19), Matthew Morris (3-33) and Callum Harrison (3-44) all claimed three wickets for Burslem.
Whitmore continued their fine start to the summer as they beat Ashcombe Park in style to make it a hat-trick of victories.
Whitmore took first use on home turf and managed to stick 218-9 on their board from their 45-over allocation.
Caleb Mierkalns was quick out of the blocks with a 31-ball 52, which included seven fours and three sixes.
