Boss says simple approach is key to help Valiants to rediscover their top form

DARREN Moore says his Port Vale players have to go back to basics to give themselves a chance of victory at Bolton Wanderers today.

- Clive Youlton

The Valiants boss has seen his team go without a League One win during October and they have now gone four league matches without a victory. The last was at Barnsley on September 27.

He thinks cutting out the mistakes which have begun to creep in is key to improving results.

"We need to get back to the basics," he said. "When you have been through what we have, we've had to remind players what they did to get through the month of September in good form, to get back to that.

"It's basics, really, and not getting clouded or losing your mindset in terms of what you have been doing.

"The players are a good group because it would be impossible to come through to where they are if they weren't a good group of players because they have had to come through too many hurdles.

"So it's time to get back to basics. That's them working harder, trying harder, being cleaner with their work and consistent and determined with their work. And being harder on each other for the right reasons.

"All those things go hand in hand when you are trying to get back into the arena and get your form back on track. There's no cutting corners. You have to do the work."
