Blooming marvellous!
The Sentinel
|June 10, 2025
PART of Stoke-on-Trent is set to blossom - after volunteers planted 20,000 seeds and installed 24 planters.
-
Allotment holders in Sneyd Green gave up their time to create tubs from timber earmarked for firewood.
Youngsters also pitched in, designing banners explaining why they love Stoke-on-Trent.
The scheme, overseen by Buxton Street Allotments, is to be a permanent fixture with the planters in situ around Milton Road and Hanley Road all year round. Organisers hope it will inspire families to grow flowers, fruit and vegetables.
Allotments secretary Derek Hulme is no stranger to successful growing.
The 64-year-old, of Sneyd Green, won a place in the Guinness Book of Records for growing the world’s longest leek and followed that up with the world’s heaviest runner bean.
