BID's renewal unlocks £1.4m town funding

Businesses back improvement initiative
FUNDING of £1.4m has been unlocked after traders voted to renew a Business Improvement District (BID) for five years.
Newcastle BID received 66% 'Yes' votes by total number of businesses taking part in a town-wide ballot.
It also received 82% of votes cast in favour of the BID by rateable value.
For the BID to be successfully renewed, it requires more than 50% of voting businesses to cast a 'Yes' vote, and those businesses need to represent more than 50% of the total rateable value of all votes cast.
Both of these criteria were met.
The positive outcome follows several months of preparation, including detailed interviews, surveys, and a month-long ballot.
