BARLASTON were crowned NSSCL Division One champions after winning at Cheadle seconds.

- Chris Travers

With closest challengers Stone SP and Rode Park & Lawton both losing, Barlaston managed to clinch top spot with two games to spare.

The title winners set sail to completing their mission by posting 167-6 from their 40 overs on their visit to Tean Road.

The experienced Fida Hussain top-scored with 65, which contained seven fours.

Ben Grange (45no) was also in fine fettle, with Rory Jones chipping in with 18 and Jon Taylor contributing 17 not out.

Ray Ginders and Elliot Hall both claimed a couple of wickets for the home side.

In reply, Joshua Jackson (29), Joe Degg (20), Noah Shaw (17) and Sam Rushton (15) all made starts.

However, Cheadle were limited to 136-9 when time was called as Jack Davies and Hussain snared 3-20 and 3-27 respectively.

And with Matt Myers chipping in with two wickets, the party could start for the Barlaston boys.

Second-placed Stone SP 2nd XI were surprisingly beaten at home by their Checkley counterparts.

And it was a win which moved 10th-placed Checkley 19 points clear of the relegation zone.

Checkley managed to stick 205-6 on the board in the formative stages of Saturday's contest.
