What music did you start listening to growing up here?
My mum and dad listened to a whole range of stuff, I remember mostly early albums from Florence + The Machine and Adele being played in the car by my mum, and a lot of Radiohead by my dad. My brother was in quite a few indie rock bands and that's when I started listening to bands like Wolf Alice and Tame Impala and seeing bands at The Sugarmill all the time. Then I started exploring different genres more and got drawn into unique songwriters like Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley, and Amy Winehouse and that's when I started writing my own stuff.
Did you start getting into playing music at school?
I've sang my whole life and throughout school I'd try and take any performance opportunity. I started getting guitar lessons when I was about 7. In school and sixth form I had really encouraging music teachers that pushed me to perform loads and write so my dad started taking me to open mics at The Jug and The Glebe.
Were you in any bands in the early days of your musical journey?
I did a few gigs with the band I was in at sixth form at The Rigger, just playing covers. But those were some of my favourite gigs because it was the first time I'd ever sung with a band and played full band gigs. We also did a cover of Cosmic Girl by Jamiroquai which was unreal. Our music teacher was absolutely incredible so it was a really formative few years and it really inspired me.
When did you start writing music?
