Railway one of two groups to benefit from council funding
CARERS for disabled people will enjoy free rides on a heritage railway, thanks to a council grant.
Apedale Valley Light Railway has been awarded £500 to fund return travel on its trains during its 2026 season. The narrow-gauge railway uses historic steam and diesel locomotives to entertain visitors to Apedale Country Park.
It is one of two beneficiaries of Newcastle Borough Council's £22,000 Civic Pride Investment Fund. The Friends of Lyme Brook, which is enhancing a tributary stream of the River Trent, has received £290.
