US President Donald Trump will arrive on Sunday for the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada, a country he once suggested should become the 51st US state. This visit comes amid his ongoing trade war with America's long-standing allies, particularly Canada.

Trump's comments about annexing Canada have angered many Canadians, and Prime Minister Mark Carney, who won his office by pledging to confront Trump's aggressive stance, will now host the summit.

Carney has criticized the US under Trump's leadership, stating that Washington no longer plays a dominant role on the world stage. He pointed out that the United States has been imposing tariffs on allies for access to its markets and reducing its contributions to collective security. To avoid repeating past issues, Carney decided not to issue a joint statement at the summit's conclusion, unlike the one French President Emmanuel Macron did in 2019.

The summit will take place from June 12 to June 26 in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada. It will include Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. Several invited heads of state from non-G7 nations will also attend, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
