Supremacy in seven sectors - Quantum Computing, Artificial intelligence, Rare Earth Minerals, Semiconductor, Space Technology, Circular Economy & Nuclear Energy with a strong military to make a dominant country, writes Sarat K Mishra

- Sarat K Mishra

THE discernible changes happening in geopolitics indicate that the world is neither unipolar nor bipolar, it is multipolar rather. Not that the world did not witness changes in the past and will not see the same in future. In fact, when we look into the past for that matter, one thing is certain, the human nature to dominate remains intact. The modus operandi and means have changed over the years but not the basic instinct.

There was a time when military might and physical conquest of a land mattered the most to establish the political and military suzerainty. Having said that, the role of ideological and cultural expansion to amalgamate and assimilate a land or a race was always there. This is termed, a cultural or ideological suzerainty to rule over the people of another land. In the name of religion too wars were fought and proselytization was rampantly used for building an empire.

At the advent of the 20th century, trade and commerce, production of goods and economic condition of a nation established superiority and clout over other countries who were lagging behind in these fronts. The terminology economic suzerainty became the new normal to describe the power and influence of a nation. The saying ‘The Sun never sets in the British Empire’ testifies that Britain was the most powerful country at one point of time.

The situation took a slow turn after the Word War-I before taking a paradigm shift after the 2nd World War with emergence of the USA as undisputed Super Power. The situation more or less continues in the similar manner although the erstwhile USSR in the second half of the 20th century challenged the USA and now China is vociferous, how to dislodge America from its status.
